The waiting game

All we can do now is wait. We know that both the end of term and more importantly the arrival of the baby will soon be upon us but it seems to be taking an absolute age. Each day I trudge into work, each day later than the last. I struggle to enthuse the l'al darlings about the causes of the Industrial Revolution while all my colleagues compound the myth that nothing can be learnt during the last three weeks of term by letting them watch DVDs. Everytime the phone rings I tense up wondering if this can be the news I've been waiting for. So far it hasn't been. (T)

After such a lovely pregnancy, I am now finding the final stages quite difficult. The worst aspect is not knowing how long I have to wait; it could be today or it could still be three weeks away! Having said that, because I am quite tired, it's nice to just laze on the sofa and while away the time watching daytime TV and DVDs. (G)

We have found messing about on the internet a fun way of passing the time so here are a few links you might enjoy.

As recommended in the Guardian;
Agony aunt
Useless facts
Do you know your arse from your elbow quiz

My friend messing about

My mate Dave's mate Alun

A band i went to see last week in Carlisle

If you're still on the look out for more fun why not leave a comment with your guess as to what name we will chose. In the meantime all we can do is wait.

ok, I have actually already had a guess by phone, but this is another medium so I get another go.....how about Anne?
Really feel for Gill by the way, the week I spent with Siobhan when she was waiting for Deniz to show was so frustrating, we kept trying to will him out and I remember Siobhan reading up on ways to induce like skipping, eating curry and something to do with nipples, but suffice to say none of it worked (and the skippings not that much fun with a belly full of curry and a nine months pregnant sister, she just couldn't keep up). There was nothing for it, little Deniz just took his time. What can you do? It's a waiting game alright. Least you've got good tely and aren't forced to watch "Flog it" and "cash in the Attic" on BBc Prime.

Julie's going for Matilda and I'm going for Marjorie. What do we win?

I feel for you Gill. I get annoyed if I have to wait at the bar for more than five minutes so nine months must be murder. Hang in there.

I've seen that Alun on TV recently. Is he a local celebrity?

Liked the video, very funny

I'm sure at least Tony will enjoy this dancing.

What do you think the odds are of our babies being born on the same day and having same name?

Thanks guys! Resorting to raspberry leaf tea at the moment but if the waiting goes on much longer, I'll be setting up a tab at the local curry house and boy racing over speed bumps!

Not Anne, Marjorie, Matilda or Tyke. (None even made the shortlist). Cheers for the dancing link Trev - v.jolly. I don't think we should pressure the wives into synchronised childbirth just yet

Ok this is Grandad Foody here ( well Yvonne is typing!) How about Ashling Bridget.

Yvonne says Maeve.

Bridget made it into the last eight but didn't quite have the staying power to make the final. Closest yet though.

Hope all goes well for you both. Not gonna try to guess the name - I just know you'll pick a beauty. Well timed, just as the summer hols start...

At least you are in the same town in the last few weeks/days - for us, Aina was at her folks and I would visit at weekends. Luckily Stanley decided to make his move late on Sunday night, so I didn't need to make a 200 km bullet train dash west to the hospital!

Tony I know what you mean about the last couple weeks of term being a screenfest - it used to irritate me a bit. "Can we watch a video sir?" "Nein danke, das Deutschstudium muss weitergehen!" Used to relent a bit in the end though, but only the last lesson - anything else I thought was a bit off. That old Protestant work ethic.

Tony I guess you won't be checking your work e-mail until September now?

Thinking of you both

I think you have given the name away in your Useless facts links.

It is so obvious now your daughter will be called Barbara Millicent, not made of plastic but certainly fantastic.

No? How about Jessica or Isabella?

Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer to find out!

Love to you both

Close Mary but no cigar. You certainly chose two of the early front runners. In fact Isabella was right up there in the final shake up. Jessica had to be abandoned though, as I had taught a particularly 'memorable' young lady with the same name.

Nice to hear from the Scowens too. I may not physically be at work but I never leave in my mind. All communication channels are open.

Last guess from me then is Rebecca anywhere in the list? Whatever the neam it will be perfect. Can't wait

Hi I'm guessing Anna and my mum has put forward the suggestion of the name of John Peels dog which escapes me at the moment - but whatever you were arguing about when she thought it was his wifes name till Gill put her straight.

Good Luck

Sinead

Hi Gill
How are you feeling, I am checking the blog every hour to hear of any news but hope to receive an sms before that!!! Thinking of you, lots of love Azra xxxxxxxx

Always nice to hear from new contributors. The name your mam was thinking about Sinead was 'Ruby'...it didn't really fit with the surname! Rebecca was mentioned but lost out because of religious intolerance.

I'm right on the sofa with you, Gill. On holiday with not a penny to do anything with and the Tv's very poor over here (I don't even have BBC Prime Time).
I had thought of a few names but a lot of them ended in "y" and I hadn't taken in the surname factor.
Let's try Charlotte.
Take care, Claire xxx

I'm thinking of you both all the time and constantly checking my phone for messages. Maybe now is the time to consider doing the nipple thing.

At 10:26 PM, Blogger Tony and Gill said...

We tried your advice Siobhan but Tony's nipples are red raw and still no sign of the baby! It is great to hear so many good wishes, cheers guys. Azra - at this rate, I think that you and the baby may share the same birthday.

Julie's going for Erin and I'm going to stick my neck out and go for Enya. I know you two are big fans.

Any news by the way? I think punctuality is heriditary.

Good luck and everything xx

Similar ideas coming through there but that doesn't make them right.

I didn't think when we first published this humble entry that we'd end up waiting soooo long(or that it would get the most comments). I suppose it is to be expected what with the wife's track record.
